How should contractor marketing case studies be evaluated?

Look beyond headline revenue. Strong case studies should show ad spend, cost per lead, cost per qualified appointment and the resulting revenue context. Different services have different economics, so roofing, insulation and ADU campaigns should not share one universal benchmark.

How to read the numbers

Context matters more than a headline return.

Ad spend
Media investment during the measured campaign period.
CPL
Cost to generate an inquiry before qualification.
CPA
Cost per qualified appointment or defined conversion event.
Revenue
Reported or attributed campaign revenue available for measurement.

These examples describe specific campaigns, markets and operating conditions. They are not guarantees. Results vary with the offer, service area, pricing, sales capacity, follow-up and attribution quality.

Revenue is not gross profit. Revenue-to-ad-spend ratios do not subtract media, agency or software fees, labor, materials, fulfillment or other operating costs. They should not be read as profit multiples.

Compare like with like. Appointment costs should use the same qualification standard and booked-versus-attended definition. Apply a consistent attribution window, keep open estimates or proposals in a mature sales cohort, and compare fully loaded acquisition cost—including media, agency and software costs—with gross profit after cancellations and refunds.

Before comparing a result with your business, define qualified-lead stages using the lead qualification framework and model your own funnel with the contractor marketing benchmark calculator.
